South African multi-award winner and legendary author, Zakes Mda has published another novel – Wayfarers’ Hymns. A book infused with rhythm and melody.
In the book, Mda invites the reader to travel from Lesotho’s Mountain Kingdom to the City of Gold through the history of famo.
Famo music was born in the drinking dens of migrant mineworkers in Lesotho.
Mda says the men would sing to unwind after work, accompanied by the accordion, a drum and sometimes a bass
Mda is in South Africa to promote his first solo art exhibition on home soil titled Mirrors and Washboards as well his new book, Wayfarers’ Hymns.
