Youth must ‘do it for economic freedom’ – NYDA

Reading Time: 2 minutes

National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) chief financial officer, Khathu Ramakombe, says the youth of today must, like the class of 76′ defy their current circumstances and fight for economic freedom. He adds that young people must approach the future starting from today with a view that they are limitless. “They must be able to emancipate themselves and be participants in the economy of the country so that they can ensure that they get a better life. But, they must also be participants in creating a better society. They need to be builders of their own communities and lend a helping hand to other young people to ensure that we build a truly prosperous and democratic society.”

Young people must approach the future starting from today with a view that they are limitless.

The NYDA assist young people through skilling – they assist them with skills so they can participate in the economy as employees or as young people owning their own businesses. Youth Day is celebrated each year in South Africa as a commemoration of the many students who took part in a protest march in 1976, against education policies introduced by the apartheid government. This year, the main celebrations will take place in Port Elizabeth. President Jacob Zuma will make a keynote address.
