The Students Representative Council (SRC) at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape has welcomed President Jacob Zuma’s announcement on free higher education for the poor.
SRC secretary Nkosikhona Ndovela says, this will curb protests as most students at the institution are from poor backgrounds.
“Having the President himself pronounce that they will be free education starting in 2018 then there will less problems for Walter Sisulu University. We acknowledge the fact that GGP has been increased for all institution. What the president has announced will assist us and children of the near future in ensuring that academic excellence is achieved. That will assist the students of Walter Sisulu University as well as black parents that are poor.”
