“Wrong precedence set in Zuma motion”

Reading Time: 2 minutes

North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo says his party’s national leadership has set a bad precedence in failure to take action against Members of Parliament that voted with the opposition in a failed bid to remove former President Jacob Zuma last August.

Mahumapelo who is facing a motion of no confidence, with some members of the ANC reportedly ready to vote with opposition to remove him, has  suggested that ANC National Executive Committee’s failure to discipline more than 30 ANC MPs who voted against the then President, is the reason why he is facing a removal.

Without mentioning their names, Mahumapelo says he will take the matter to the National Working Committee that is sitting in his province, in Haartebeespoortdam.

“Just like it happened at the national Parliament, when some members of the ANC who are deployed as public representatives worked and voted with the opposition to pass a motion of no confidence on former President Jacob Zuma, we did not act on them and I think that is one of the biggest mistakes, and now they are trying it all over, and they are also trying it all. We are going to report this at the PEC which is meeting and we are also going to report it to the NWC which is coming. When we are in the legislature, the position does not belong to us, and so we must do what the ANC says you need to do.”
