Woza Sisi is an exhibition that explores how women hairstylists working in the Johannesburg CBD and in Maputo manoeuvre through their days and how they use urban spaces.

This project is put together by photographer Dahlia Maubane, her work also shows how this mode of business is overlooked.

This exhibition also hopes to give audiences a broader view of these women’s lives which is beyond their mobile hair studios.

Speaking on Morning Live Maubane says the exhibition inspired by the walks she takes around Johannesburg CBD between Bree and Noord taxi rank, “the Hair dressers always call you Woza sisi, Woza sisi meaning (come sister) and that’s what they did to me.”

“What fascinated me is how they grouped themselves, is different women from different countries,” says Maubane.
