World leaders congratulate Xi on election as Chinese President

World leaders sent congratulatory messages to Xi Jinping on Saturday on his election as Chinese President. Xi was elected Chinese President by a unanimous vote on Saturday at the ongoing first session of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s highest organ of state power.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his congratulatory message that the decision made by the National People’s Congress once again proves Xi’s high prestige, and represents a recognition of his contribution to promoting China’s rapid economic and social development and safeguarding China’s national interests on the global stage.

He said Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented height thanks largely to Xi’s personal push. Putin said that he would be very happy to hold new meetings with Xi, adding that he believes with the joint efforts of both sides, the two countries will surely further consolidate and enrich the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang said in his congratulatory message that he believes Xi Jinping, as the core of the Central Committee of the Communist.

Party of China (CPC), President of China and chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, will lead the Chinese people to realize the goal of building the country into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful and make important contribution to the peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world.

President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith noted in his congratulation message that he believed, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at the core, China will make great, historic achievements in advancing socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain said Xi’s election as president showed the Chinese people’s confidence in his brilliant leadership. He said China had made remarkable achievements in the past five years and will surely advance further and realize the goal of national rejuvenation.

Pakistan and China are all-weather strategic partners, and it will continue to comprehensively strengthen bilateral relations with China and benefit the people of both countries, he said.

President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in said he hopes China will realize the Chinese dream soon under the leadership of Xi and make greater contribution to the peace and development of northeastern Asia and the world.

Emperor of Japan Akihito and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also sent congratulations to Xi. Abe said China’s development has caught the attention of the world since it adopted the reform and opening up policy four decades ago.

He hopes Japan and China will develop extensive cooperation and step into a new phase of bilateral relations.

President of the Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said Xi’s election as Chinese president reflected the Chinese people’s firm confidence in attaining the two centenary goals and realizing the Chinese dream under his leadership. He said he believes China will make greater achievements and bring opportunities for the common development of countries across the globe.

Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent congratulations to Xi. Hamid said under Xi’s leadership, China will surely make great achievements for the noble cause of building an international community with a shared future for mankind.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Xi’s election as Chinese President showed Chinese people’s high acknowledgement of Xi’s great contribution to safeguarding the national interests. He said China will certainly make further achievements during the process of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

Nazarbayev believes that with the joint efforts of both sides, the Kazakhstan-China comprehensive strategic partnership will continue to maintain a high level of development. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said Chinese people are firmly advancing towards the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

He said he hopes China will enjoy lasting peace and prosperity under Xi’s leadership. President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili said in his congratulation message that Xi’s leadership will surely bring more benefit to the Chinese people. He believes that the traditional friendship and cooperation between China and Georgia will surely be further deepened.

President of Cameroon Paul Biya congratulated Xi on the success he had achieved in leading the country’s development. He said he hopes for the promotion of the bilateral relationship between Cameroon and China.

President of Namibia Hage Geingob said under Xi’s leadership, China has made notable progress in economic and social development. He said the country is reaching closer to the goal of building a great modern socialist country.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said Xi’s election as President showed the Chinese people’s trust and confidence in Xi’s foresight and wisdom in dealing with national and global affairs. He believes the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to be held this September will be a great success, and hopes the partnership between Africa and China will enter a new stage.

President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa said Xi as a honest, upright and responsible leader is supported wholeheartedly by the Chinese people. He said he believes China would be a more prosperous and stronger country under the leadership of Xi.

Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said Xi’s election as President showed the National People’s Congress’s high recognition of his ability of governing the country and his noble character in serving the people.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Xi’s election as Chinese President demonstrates that both the Chinese people and the CPC have full confidence in his leadership and blueprints for the country’s future, adding that Xi will lead China to achieve great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and promote global peace and justice.

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen spoke highly of the great achievements China has made since its reform and opening up four decades ago, and extended his wish that China will continue to forge ahead under Xi’s leadership.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic praised the CPC and President Xi, saying both are courageous and responsible. He expressed his confidence that the Chinese people will achieve the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, and make great contributions to safeguarding world peace and stability and bring benefit to people of all countries.

Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda Sir Rodney Williams called Xi an inspirational and talented leader and extended his wish that China will make greater achievements under Xi’s leadership.

Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov underscored in his congratulatory letter that China is playing an increasingly important role in the world. He highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative and the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, which were both put forward by Xi, saying that they have won wide acclaim and positive response from the international community. He also expressed confidence that China will host a fruitful SCO summit in the eastern city of Qingdao in June.
