The World Health Organisation has warned that countries should not be complacent with the record of low COVID-19 infection numbers.

WHO Sub-Sahara Director Dr Matshidiso Moeti and Africa’s Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr John Nkengasong also commended the United States of America for donating vaccine doses to Africa.

Earlier, the WHO gave an update on the state of vaccinations on the continent.

While some countries are seeing a decline in the number of infections, others are already reporting signs of a fourth wave.

The WHO and the Africa CDC have issued a stern warning to countries.

The continent is expected to receive a large consignment of COVID-19 vaccines soon.

African countries are still far from achieving herd immunity.
