Workers at Eskom’s Medupi power station in Lephalale in Limpopo have expressed mixed reaction about plans to demobilise seven thousand workers.
Eskom announced that between now and December, construction companies contracted to Eskom will reduce workers as the construction of the project is coming to an end.
18 000 construction workers working for various companies were employed to build the R145 billion Medupi power station. These workers express their views.
“We are not happy about it but it’s fine we will pull through … we got some skills that can help us going forward. I have been working here for eight years doing turning and fitting. We were told that we are going to lose our jobs but it is not true … there is still [a] lot of work to be done here.”
