Women rights activists march against gender-based violence

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A small group of women rights activists is marching from Kaizergracht to Parliament to demand an end to gender based violence.

The march started two hours later than scheduled. The organisers expected thousands of people to support their march, but only a handful pitched.

This is despite the earlier arrival of civil rights activists from other provinces in Cape Town to attend the march. What is however visible, is the strong presence of hundreds of marshals, law enforcement personnel and the police.

The small group of marchers are wearing black T-shirts with the words #no excuse on them. They are expected to deliver a memorandum of grievances to officials at Parliament.
