Orlando Pirates have suffered their first defeat of the new Absa Premiership season, this after loss against Bidvest Wits at Orlando stadium on Wednesday.

The win see Wits maintain a hundred record to the start and enjoy a three point lead at the summit of the standings.

In what has been the story of their new league campaign, Orlando Pirates enjoyed a lion’s share of ball position however they had little to show for it.

The Soweto giants had a glorious opportunity to take the lead on the stroke of half-time; however Justin Shonga fluffed his line with only the keeper to beat.

The Sea Robbers who recruited a finishing coach ahead of the new season, continued to play on the front foot after the break — however a goal continued to elude them.

Chances they were made to rue after the final whistle.

Orlando Pirates coach, Milutin Sredojevic says, “Despite having very good build up, despite creating reinforced defence of the opponent, we could not break through and score.”

With Pirates failing to make most of ball position, Wits who were happy to sit back and absorb pressure produced a smash and grab with 10 minutes to go.

Haashim Domingo’s deflected strike was enough to hand Wits their third successive win of the new campaign.

Pirates continued to commit numbers going forward in search of the equaliser however their efforts were in vain, the match ending 1-nil in favour of Wits.
