Bidvest Wits take on Maritzburg United in Friday’s Telkom Knockout (TKO) last-16 round match at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Wits last lifted-up the TKO trophy with a narrow 1-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic two years ago.

Vincent Pule, who is now with Orlando Pirates scored Wits’ winning goal.

Considering the Team of Choice’s tough stance against opponents at home, Wits head coach Gavin Hunt says his charges will be extra cautious hoping to go all the way and win this year’s edition.

The Clever Boys were eliminated in the semi-finals last year by the reigning champions Baroka FC, who will be guests at SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe stadium on Saturday. Hunt says he will bank on side’s pedigree in cup games and he has nothing to worry about.

The Braamfontein based side is currently enjoying an early fine run in the Premier Soccer League after winning five matches from the six matches played so far.

With Hunt’s side also enjoying a good run in the CAF Confederation Cup, having thrashed eSwatini’s Young Buffaloes 3-0, the 55 year-old Wits’ mentor says that his side’s focus on every game. – Report by Sinovuyo Ndudane
