Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, has welcomed the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa to terminate the National State of Disaster. He says the step will ensure a much-needed focus on economic recovery and the fight against joblessness.

The end of the State of Disaster will be followed by interim regulations that will remain in place for 30 days.

National Government will now finalise regulations under the National Health Act which will be finalised on 16 April.

Winde says they will be monitoring the regulations and will oppose measures they deem unnecessary.

He has called on the public to continue staying safe and to adhere to social distancing measures.

“This announcement now means that each one of us has an important role to play. We should continue to stay safe by practicing the golden rules of good hygiene. We should also protect those at risk of severe disease, by acting responsibly. We should get vaccinated if we haven’t yet been able to. This choice is the right choice to save lives and jobs.”
