What will Oscar’s fate be?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected deliver judgement in Oscar Pistorius trial, which lasted almost five months.

State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel accused Pistorius of killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp with intent and premeditated thought on February 14 last year at his Pretoria home.

If Judge Masipa finds the prosecution has failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Pistorius is guilty of intending to shoot Reeva Steenkamp, Pistorius can be found guilty of “culpable homicide”.

She would have to calculate Pistorius’ level of negligence before sentencing him.

But if Judge Thokozile Masipa finds Pistorius guilty of the lesser charge of murder, she would need to be convinced that he did mean to kill whoever was behind his bathroom door but with no element of planning and without “malice aforethought.”

In addition, Pistorius is charged with discharging firearms in a public space as well as illegally possessing ammunition.

Each charge has severe consequences. We take a look at what the blade runner may be facing in the infographic below.
