Westwood wins Abu Dhabi Golf Championship

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Veteran Lee Westwood has secured a 25th European Tour title. This after he won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship by two strokes.

He beat countrymen Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick as well as Victor Perez of France.

The Englishman started the final round with a one stroke lead and made his intentions clear early on.

He birdied four of the first eight holes to put some daylight between him and the rest of the field.

He had a little hick-up when he bogeyed the 16th, but he made no mistake on the last to card a final round 67 – five-under-par.

He finished the tournament on 269 – 19-under-par and is projected to move up to 29th on the world rankings.

South African Louis Oosthuizen who was runner-up at last week’s SA Open at Randpark, had a much better day on the greens, and finished fifth.

He completed his faultless final round in six-under-par 66 to finish four behind Westwood.
