The Western Cape Health Department will be hosting a welcoming ceremony on Sunday afternoon for 26 Cuban health care workers who will be deployed to various facilities to support the fight against COVID-19.
The ceremony will be held in the Cape Town CBD.
Health Ministry spokesperson, Nomawethu Sbukwana explains: “This afternoon (Sunday), the Western Cape Health MEC Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, will host a welcoming ceremony for the 26 Cuban health care workers. The brigade comprises of experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health, family physicians, health care technology engineers and experts to provide technical assistance.”

COVID-19 patients
The number of patients being treated for COVID-19 infections in hospitals in the Western Cape has increased to 557 with 154 people receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says 276 people have died after contracting the virus.
He says there are currently 6146 active cases of COVID-19 and 6525 recoveries.
Winde says the province’s hospital system currently has the capacity to deal with the demand for hospital beds.
