Western Cape Premier Alan Winde reshuffles his provincial Cabinet

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has reshuffled his provincial Cabinet following the resignation of one minister and the dismissal of another.

Education MEC Debbie Schäfer will be taking an offer in the United Kingdom while Community Safety’s Albert Fritz was fired following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Winde announced changes to the configuration of various departments like Human Settlements, Community Safety and Transport.

The changes will see among others David Maynier as the Provincial Education Minister while Reagan Allen will become the provincial Minister of Community Safety.

Winde says the aim is to improve service delivery within the restrained resources.

“We are focused on making sure that this government is agile. This government looks at what comes at us, rethinks, and tries things. We are moving, not doing the same thing expecting different outcomes. We really want to make sure we gonna make the biggest difference in the two years left of this term and this team has to lead that change,” says Winde.

Well-wishes for Schäfer

Winde says she was a strong and tenacious leader that ensured a well-run education system in the province.

“We will miss her sharp attention to detail and steadfast commitment to the values we share. And I thank her for the important role she has played in our cabinet over the last years. I’m confident that she’ll be a great success in her new endeavour,” says Winde.
