Western Cape police say they arrested 57 suspects on a range of charges, including murder, at the weekend.

Police Spokesperson,  Andre Traut says the arrests were made in Delft, Gugulethu and Brown’s Farm.

Traut says an unlicensed firearm was seized from a man who was shot and killed when he attempted to hijack a motorist in Brown’s Farm.

Traut says the suspects will appear in various courts on Monday.

“Three suspects were arrested in Tshishi Street Brown’s Farm on Friday when a tracker signalled police to the location of a stolen Toyota Quantum. While six suspects evaded arrest, three aged 21, 28 and 31 were arrested while stripping the stolen vehicle. One of the suspects was armed with an unlicensed firearm and he was accordingly charged. Weekend operations also resulted in the arrest of 57 suspects on a variety of charges including murder, attempted murder, possession of firearms and drugs,” says Traut.
