Over 36 000 candidates for the National Senior Certificate are set to start their exams in the Western Cape on Monday. About 13 000 of the candidates are adults and out-of-school young people while the majority of the candidates are writing to improve their marks from last year.

Outgoing provincial Education Minister, Debbie Schäfer, says various language papers will be the first examinations to be written at the 174 exam writing centres across the province.

Schäfer has wished the candidates well on their exams.
