The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has called on young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to take advantage of its programme to recruit more than 20 000 education assistants and general school assistants.
The programme will run for three months from the beginning of next month until the end of March next year. Applicants should possess a tertiary qualification or a matric certificate and they must be unemployed.

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says applicants will support teachers with technical preparations of the classroom, teaching and learning and ensuring that teaching materials are available and ready for use.
“The initiative is part of the President’s Employment Stimulus Plan. Education assistants will assist teachers in the classroom and provide after school support while general assistants will assist with administration and general maintenance and IT support. The programme will run from 1st December 2020 to the 31st of March 2021 and youth between the ages of 18 and 35 can apply.”
