Police Minister, Bheki Cele, says the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces are hostile to the police. He made the remark while speaking at the funeral of a constable who was shot dead while attending to a gender-violence complaint in the Durban Metro.
Constable Mfihloyakhe Royal Ndlovu’s funeral service was held in the KwaXimba area, west of Durban.
It coincided with the killing of two police officers this morning, while on duty, in Cape Town.

Altogether six officers have been killed in South Africa over the past 10 days.
Cele has reminded police officers that they have a right to protect themselves.
“There is war here. And we must fight that war. Because the fact that we have dead bodies here, it tells us we are under attack. And we must repel that and make sure that when the dust settles I am not picking up the dead bodies of the police. I must pick the other body. Not the police.”

Earlier, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) slammed the killing of police officers, saying the issue can no long be overlooked.
