Sampson says measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of voters and IEC staff throughout the voting process.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC ) says it’s ready to host free and fair national and provincial elections next week.

Western Cape electoral officer, Courtney Sampson briefed the media in Cape Town on the IEC’s readiness for elections, starting with the special votes on Monday and on Tuesday.

Sampson says measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of voters and IEC staff throughout the voting process.

“Tomorrow is a special votes day. 40 000 home visits to be completed on Monday and Tuesday, and 25 000 visits at the voting stations, special votes. The pressure is going to be on the staff to make sure they fulfill all those requirements. There has been few challenges …”
