The Western Cape Health and Wellness Department says it is “shocked and heartbroken” following a fatal shooting that has claimed two lives inside the New Somerset Hospital in Cape Town.
It has also conveyed its sincere condolences to the families that have lost relatives during the incident.
The department says the authorities are in touch with them.
Police say a man allegedly took the firearm of a police official and fired several shots.
Spokesperson, Novela Potelwa says Sea Point Police had taken a 35-year-old suspect to the hospital for medical attention when the incident occurred.
Two patients were shot dead and a police constable seriously injured in the head after a man in the hospital grabbed a his firearm. The incident is under investigation.
