Western Cape Blood Service continues to experience blood shortage

The Western Cape Blood Service says they are experiencing a critical blood shortage.

Eligible blood donors must be between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh 50kg or more and should be in good general health.

The Service’s Public Relations Manager Marike Gevers says they encourage all eligible blood donors to make their way to the nearest donation clinic.

The Western Cape Blood Service is experiencing a critical blood shortage as we only have a one-day blood supply for O-positive and a three-day supply for O-negative, A-positive and B-positive. We need donors of all blood groups to please come and donate blood. To find your closest blood donation clinic, please download the WCBS app or visit wcbs.org.za. So something remarkable. Donate blood.”

Early this year the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) appealed for more support from its donors in KwaZulu-Natal.
