Western Cape Sports Minister Anroux Marais says her department is at an advanced stage of drafting a policy focussing on equal respect for women in sport.

Marais was speaking during a conference on women in sport.

This coincides with International Women’s Day observed on Tuesday.

She says they aim to break the bias perpetrated against women in sport.

“Our women put up their hands but they still not presidents of confederations or the federation. They are only good to be the secretary it’s just a simple, example but is relevant. So it’s just put up your hand, belief in yourself, and also that the men know also so that men know we are here and that we respect each other. I think it must come to respect, mutual respect between the men and women.”
