A member of the ANC’s Western Cape Executive Committee, Elese Depouche has been shot and killed at his home in Crossroads near Philippi on the Cape Flats.

His wife survived the attack and was taken to a nearby hospital. Her injuries are unknown at this stage.

According to the ANC, Depouche was attacked by unknown assailants when he entered his home in Crossroads Tuesday night.

The former City of Cape Town councillor has been a controversial figure in the area.

He was axed as a councillor in the city after a court found him guilty of pointing a firearm at an elderly resident of Nyanga in 2015.

ANC Provincial Secretary, Faiez Jacobs says Depouche was a resilient man that spent most of his life fighting for the better life of the people.

Jacobs says Depouche faced many challenges within his community but never faltered in his commitment to improve the lives of the vulnerable.

No one has been arrested for the attack as yet.
