Western Cape administers over 1,6 million COVID-19 vaccines

Premier Alan Winde says there are 328 vaccine sites across the public and private sectors in the province and mobile pop-up stations are being used especially in areas where registrations are low.
Winde says he is encouraged by the registration numbers in the 18 plus age bracket with 150 000 registrations on the first day.
Winde says there are currently over 41 000 active cases in the province with over 3 000 people receiving care in hospitals.
Last week Wednesday, the Deputy Director-General in the Health Department, Dr Nicholas Crisp said there were enough vaccines in the country to move the date forward for 18 plus age.

Health experts say vaccines are the best way to ensure that one does not get severely ill and or even die from COVID-19.

They add that the vaccines being administered in South Africa are considered safe and effective.

Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Professor Mosa Moshabela said there are still concerns about taking the vaccine.

However, Professor Moshabela said the youth are very enthusiastic and he hopes that they can help break the chain of infections.
