Well-wishes pour in for Tutu ahead of his 90th birthday

The Archbishop Desmond Tutu Intellectual Property (IP) Trust, says a deluge of love and well-wishes from individuals and organisations around the world has been pouring into Cape Town ahead of the Arch’s milestone 90th birthday on Thursday.

The Arch is expected to attend a special thanksgiving service at St George’s Cathedral before spending the day at home with close family.

The occasion is being marked by a series of events arranged by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.

This includes an online presentation of the 11th Annual Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture on Thursday.

This year’s special lecture features The Dalai Lama, former Irish President Mary Robinson, Chairperson of The Elders Graca Machel, and former South African Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.

Last year speakers at the event included climate change activists Christiana Figueres from Costa Rica, Vanessa Nakate from Uganda, and South Africa’s Ayakha Melithafa:
