WEF on Africa kicks-off in Cape Town

The World Economic Forum on Africa will kick off in Cape Town on Wednesday. The key event has already attracted over 1 000 participants from more than 75 economies.

Three heads of state including President Jacob Zuma are expected to address delegates. This year’s meeting will focus on 10 global challenges of the World Economic Forum.

These range from African investment, infrastructure, employment and health systems.

Forum director, Oliver Cann says, “This meeting is actually the largest meeting we’ve had as a forum Worldwide that demonstrates
to me a tremendous amount of interest and commitment to working together for private public corporation to solve Africa’s challenges. We are seeing tremendous growth in certain economies in Africa, we are seeing social progress, we are seeing political progress.”

The rate of poverty, the rate of unemployment in Africa is becoming alarming and there is need for development.

Meanwhile, delegates attending the 2015 World Economic Forum on Africa under way in Cape Town have pledged their commitment to the event.

Many of them hope poverty and unemployment will be placed high on this year’s agenda.

More than 500 business leaders are expected to attend WEF from 75 countries.

Delegates say they would like meaningful dialogue with government and their representatives on political and economic challenges that are affecting the continent.

“I feel like it’s an excellent venue for brain storming and secondly an excellent occasion to network and re-new old relationships.
There is a need for Africa to start witnessing better growth, the rate of poverty, the rate of unemployment in Africa is becoming alarming and there is need for development and that is why the need for the focus,” says one of the delegates
