Amajita were knocked out of the tournament, after they drew their final group match against Portugal 1-1 on Saturday

South African men under-20 coach Thabo Senong says they have learnt valuable lessons at the FIFA World Cup in Poland.

Amajita were knocked out of the tournament, after they drew their final group match against Portugal 1-1 on Saturday night.

They lost against 5-2 against Argentina in the first match, and also lost 1-0 against South Korea in the second match.

Portugal opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Rafael Leao. James Monyane then scored from a penalty spot for Amajita in the 52nd minute.

Amajita defended bravely for most of the match. Goalkeeper Khulekani Kubheka also saved a penalty in the 57th minute, and Senong says he has a very good tournament.

Amajita missed right back Keanan Phillips in the last two matches after he was sent off in the opening match against Argentina.

Phillips also scored one of the two goals against Argentina. Senong says they missed him.

Fellow African countries Senegal, Nigeria and Mali have all qualified to the knockout stages of the competition. Senong wished them all the best. – Report by Vincent Sitsula
