The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) is relying on the WHO (World Health Organization) for the daily updates on the coronavirus which is prevalent in China.

SA athletes will be taking part in the global sporting events leading up to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in Japan in July.

Audio: Sascoc Chief Medical Doctor Carolette Cloete explains:

Many sporting events have been canceled in China as the deadly virus is spreading across the world at a rapid pace. Cloete explains what the virus is about.

Some countries in Asia have also canceled some events as a precautionary measure to prevent the virus.

Cloete says countries can use their own discretion in terms of allowing visitors.

Governments, citizens, media, key influencers & communities have an important role to play in
preventing & stopping stigma.

Can spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body kill the new #coronavirus?

No. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body. Spraying such substances can be harmful.#COVID19 #facts https://t.co/8cSDmfRJif pic.twitter.com/Ykx6IYrHV3
