Spectators at the second annual Amanzi Festival in Port Alfred are getting everything they bargained for and more.

The international body boarding competition has drawn some of the world’s best. South Africa is also known for its world class rubber duck boat racers which will compete in the finals on Sunday.

“Athletes are finding this attractive. We got the world no. 1 and no.2 body boarders here participating. It’s going to be very interesting,” says event organiser, Dave Lawson.

“I’ve had to travel the world, spending life savings and working odd jobs just to get to an event. To have this event here in South Africa is game changing. Especially for the younger kids, they really get a chance to it all here at home,” says international body boarder, Michael Ostler.

It is all about bringing everybody on board for growing this type of water sport.

Those from disadvantaged backgrounds are also groomed not only to participate but compete.

This event is set to be a permanent feature in the Port Alfred events calendar at least for the next five years.
