The eThekwini Municipality has implemented water restrictions in the central, southern and western areas of the city.
This is due to ongoing challenges in fixing a shaft pump at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works.
The affected areas will experience daily water shortages from 8 PM to 3 AM.
Municipal Spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela says repairs to the pumps are underway.
“The reason for us to reach this situation is to guard against the process whereby the system collapses completely. Umngeni Water is hard at work currently to get the pump,” says Mayisela.
“We appeal to the public to continue working with us. We’re also appealing to those that have water dripping from their taps that at all times they conserve water. We will continue to update the public with the progress that is being made by Umngeni Water in repairing this pump,” adds Mayisela.
