The Life Esidimeni hearings continue in Parktown, Johannnesburg on Friday.
On Thursday, Deputy Director for Mental Health Services in Gauteng, Hannah Jacobus, accused her former boss Dr Makgabo Manamela of lying under oath.
She says Manamela’s version that she did not impose more patients on NGOs than they could care for, is simply not true.
Jacobus told the Esidimeni hearings that Manamela also instructed her to flout regulations with regard to issuing licenses to NGOs due to tight deadlines in light of the imminent closure of Esidimeni facilities.
She further said Manamela took away some of her core responsibilities regarding compiling licences, and delegated those responsibilities to other officials without her knowledge.
