The funeral service of the late diplomat George Nene is underway at Morris Isaacson High School in Soweto and will then be laid to rest at Avalon Cemetery.
Nene has been hailed as the custodian of multi-literalism and youth development at his memorial service at the offices of the International Relations Department in Pretoria.
Nene passed away last week. He had worked at the department as a diplomat since 1994 and retired two years ago.
Nene was chairperson of the South African Association of Former Ambassadors and the first high commissioner to Nigeria.
Sipho Seakamela, who Nene groomed, says the late diplomat remained humble until the end.
