A formal court session of the Constitutional Court in honour of Justice Bess Nkabinde is underway.
Nkabinde will retire at the end of this year after serving 12 years as a Justice of the Court.
In 2006, she was appointed as a Justice of the Constitutional Court.
When Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke retired in 2016, Justice Nkabinde was appointed Acting Deputy Chief Justice. For part of her acting stint, Nkabinde became Acting Chief Justice, the first woman in South Africa to hold that position.
