Two warders have been arrested for allegedly helping 16 prisoners escape from the Johannesburg Correctional Services facility, also known as Sun City, earlier this month.
Seven of the prisoners have since been accounted for while two were killed in a shootout with police in KwaZulu-Natal.
Nine escapees are still at large.
Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says the warders will appear in court on Friday.
Dlamini says the warders were arrested by the Provincial Task team.
They will face charges of assisting prisoners to escape.
“We are continuing with investigations and at this stage we don’t know if more warders were involved,” says Dlamini.
