The Western Cape Department of Agriculture says no new confirmed avian influenza infections have been reported in the province.

63 confirmed cases were reported in the province since the outbreak in August 2017. The department says this signals a possible positive turning point for the industry.

Spokesperson Bronwynne Jooste says, “The focus for animal health technicians right now is to support farmers to make sure that their poultry houses are clean so that they can start the restocking process and in terms of the impact of this outbreak on food prices, there have been some price increases that have been observed, but we will have official numbers next week when stats SA releases its consumer price index and this index will show the figures.”
