The Western Cape Social Development Department says incidents of child abuse will not be tolerated at crèches and pre-schools.

A video emerged on social media this week of a crèche owner allegedly hitting a child in Mitchell’s Plain on the Cape Flats. The department says it is investigating the alleged incident.

Spokesperson Sihle Ngobese says, “The department takes this matter seriously as we have a zero tolerance towards the alleged abuse of any child. Social workers from our Mitchell’s Plain local office have launched an investigation. We continue to call on parents to come forward and to give us information so that we can conduct a thorough investigation.”
