Reading Time: < 1 minute

Firefighting crews in Franskraal and Karwyderskraal in the Overstrand region in the Western Cape have received aerial support. Fire Chief, Lester Smith, says ground crews are also attending to flare-ups in the Betty’s Bay area where more than 30 houses were gutted on Friday.

Smith says firefighters from various municipalities are assisting.

“We have two helicopters assisting ground crews. We have an active line on that Franskraal fire towards the mountain area. In the Hermanus Karwyderskraal area there’s also another flare up. We also currently have one helicopter, as well as one bomber currently on that scene. Betty’s Bay fires are also still not contained. Fire crews are also ensuring they put that whole fire out.”
