The African National Congress stalwarts and veterans say there's an urgent need for introspection, as the governing party finds itself in a crisis.

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape says about 45 branches are yet to hold branch general meetings in the run-up to the party’s national elective conference in Johannesburg next month.

The province has 190 ANC branches and the national deadline set by the party’s secretary-general Gwede Mantashe for all BGM’s to be concluded is Tuesday.

Provincial secretary, Fayez Jacobs says most branches are in the Boland and Metro.

“The branch general meetings are the key things, branches have to be in good standing, we are doing two processes nominations for the local branch executive, you have to choose the secretary and the chair and that in itself requires consensus where different interest groups need to mediate and support a candidates that will unite the local ANC that’s always been a challenge,” says Jacobs.
