Several voting stations did not open on time on Wednesday morning leaving voters angry and frustrated in and around Johannesburg.

Some polling stations opened late while others did not have voting material when they opened. Hundreds of voters started queuing from as early as 3 am to be first on the line when voting starts.

Hlengiwe Nhlabathi arrived at the Union of Life voting station in Tembisa before 7 am. About an hour later voting had not yet begun.

“We are told that material has not arrived and we are waiting patiently and some people are leaving,” said Nhlabathi”.

In Alexandra voters at the Alexandra library were aggrieved after the polling station opened 40 minutes late.

One of the voters said: “The voting station was supposed to be opened at 7 now its half past 7 and they are still busy inside there sealing the ballot boxes. I am disappointed and we are freezing in the cold.”

At Randpark Ridge United church voting had not yet started by 8 due to delays in delivering voting material.
