Voting day just another public holiday for some

Reading Time: < 1 minute

As millions go to the polls on November 1, some residents in Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal took the day off, which is a public holiday, as a chance to relax a bit.

SABC Digital News producer Philile Nzimande spoke to some of the people who took the day to visit the beach.

Some have chosen to celebrate this holiday with friends and family at the beach. Young people at Richards Bay are proud and happy about their decision not to vote.

Confronted with their daily challenges of local government failures, one in three eligible voters have turned away from electoral politics.

Local government is closest to people and its failures have seen a rise in trust levels.
