Violence erupts in Zimbabwe after polls

Violence broke out as poll results have been released

Violence has erupted in Zimbabwe following the announcement of the results of Monday’s polls.

Supporters of the Movement of Democratic Change (MDC) are blocking streets and burning tyres in the capital Harare with the police firing rubber bullets and teargas to try and disperse them.

ZANU- PF has achieved a two thirds majority in the National Assembly with 207 of the 210 constituencies declared, Zanu -PF has garnered 145 seats or 69% of the votes and its closes rival, the MDC Alliance 59 seats or 28%.

Results are still awaited from three constituencies in the Harare Province. An independent candidate and the National Patriotic Front won one seat each.
