Vilas and Heat out to avenge first round loss to Blitz in Cape Town

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Durban Heat Captain Dane Vilas says his Mzansi Super League (MSL) strugglers are determined to extract some revenge on the Cape Town Blitz and also get their season going when they face off at Newlands on Thursday.

The visitors are yet to win a game this season, and with five rounds now having elapsed, almost every game has become a must-win for Gary Kirsten’s side.

They have at least managed to acquire six points by virtue of three washouts, which puts them fifth on the standings and eight points off the play-off spots. Vilas says they remain upbeat over their prospects.

Listen to the interview below for more on the story:

One of the two games the Heat have managed to play this season has been against the Blitz. In that first meeting in Durban, the visitors edged to a 10-run win, although the hosts could have so easily won it themselves.

Vilas says they are keen to make amends for that defeat by beating last season’s runners-up.

The Heat did have injury concerns over Marco Jansen and Daryn Dupavillon earlier in the competition, but both are now fit and firing.

Vilas says that everyone is available for the Blitz clash, which will be broadcast exclusively live on SABC, adding that it was a crunch game for his team.

A reminder that all matches in MSL 2.0 are being broadcast exclusively live on SABC television and radio platforms. Report by Thahir Asmal
