South Africans have been urged by the Department of Health to get their vaccinations and booster shots and observe non-pharmaceutical interventions. This comes after the first case of a new, highly transmissible coronavirus sub-variant was detected in South Africa.
According to the World Health Organisation, XBB.1.5 is the most transmissible sub-variant discovered thus far.
