The WHO has warned that the pandemic could smoulder in Africa for several years.

SABC News takes a look at top stories pertaining to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from the country, continent and the world.

The number of confirmed worldwide infections is 2 931 787 and 203 596 deaths have been reported.

South Africa’s confirmed cases have surpassed the 4 000 mark with 4 361 infections. Deaths have risen to 86.

On the rest of the continent, 52 African Union Member States have so far reported 31 168 cases, 1 374 deaths and 9 106 recoveries.
