Those supporting the Vha Venda King Toni Mphephu-Ramabulana say they are still studying the Constitutional Court ruling on the kingship battle with his niece, Princess Masindi Mphephu, before commenting.

Yesterday, the Constitutional Court dismissed, with costs, King Ramabulana’s application. It also declared it invalid.

King Ramabulana had approached the highest court in the land to seek to set aside the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) ruling, that Masindi was eligible to lead the VhaVenda as queen.

Court declares unlawful Toni Mphephu-Ramabulana as VhaVenda king:

Community reaction to the ruling:

Some community members say that the court ruling is an indication that women are capable of being leaders.

Residents in Louis Trichardt react to ConCourt ruling:

“We believe a woman is also a human being. It’s just that the apartheid system changed our mindset and we started undermining women. During the olden days, women were also denied to go to school but things have changed now. Women are also important human beings, they were just oppressed, so Vho Masindi will also be able to rule, women are powerful.”
