The son of notorious paedophile Gert van Rooyen has been arrested in Wonderboompoort, Pretoria, after police received a tip-off from the community this morning.
Gerhard van Rooyen was wanted on several cases of fraud by authorities in both Wonderboompoort and the Klerksdorp area in North West. The Police’s Mandlakayise Zwane says a female accomplice was also arrested.
Zwane says the arrest comes after van Rooyen had skipped bail that he had on one of the fraud cases. This led to the issuing of a warrant of arrest on that case.
“With the assistance of the community members we were given a tip-off to his whereabouts, and then we made follow ups and we made a successful arrest.”
The two are expected to appear in court soon for a formal bail application with regards to these number of fraud cases.
Van Rooyen’s father Gert committed suicide with his lover in 1990 after being linked to the disappearance of six young girls, whose remains have never been found.
