The case against six men accused of rape, robbery, attempted murder and assault at a tavern in Tshepiso in Sharpeville has been postponed to the 17th of August.
This is to allow their legal representative more time to consult with them.
The accused made a brief appearance in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court this morning.
They were arrested on the 22nd of June, three days after the violent attack.
The men allegedly went on to the home of tavern owner, Themba Khambule, where they shot him in the leg before robbing him of cash, household belongings and bank cards.
Khambule, who is in a wheelchair, was in court today.
He says he is fortunate to be alive and justice must be done.
“It is sad. It is very sad that robbers coming into your house, demanding whatever they can take at the end of the day they shoot you. I can’t move now and I was helping myself, supporting myself and children I cannot do anything. I am stuck in bed now, but with the grace of God, I say thank you.”
