The V&A Waterfront in Cape Town says it will make an assessment this morning to determine if trading and operations will take place following Wednesday night’s fire.

An electrical transformer caught alight in the basement of one of the stores. Fire services attended to the incident.

No injuries were reported. Workers and shoppers were evacuated and shops closed for the evening.

Spokesperson for the Waterfront, Donald Kau says shoppers who left their vehicles behind can collect them.

“As to whether we will open, just for those people who are worried about maybe they left their car behind overnight the site is open and the fire officials have given us a go ahead you can come in and retrieve your vehicle.”
